Do you guys have that plaque in your conference room which has words like Innovation, Passion, Pioneering, Respect, Trust? Does everyone in your organisation from CEO to shop floor have the same understanding of each of those words? In my experience, I have not yet come across a single company where even just the top 20 people have a shared and common understanding of each of those words. It’s not their fault. These words are abstract and we humans can’t live with abstraction so we make up our own meaning. Most companies have documents that explain each word. But that rarely works. That is just more English words to explain one English word. The solution is to use stories. In my conversation with Joy Bhattacharjya he shares an incident where he did just that.
